AWKA – (FIC Awka Report) – The Supervising Officer of the South – East Geopolitical Zone of the Nigeria Police Force, Anthony Ogbizi (DIG) has charged men and officers of the Force to apply professionalism as they carry out their election duties. DIG Ogbizi gave the charge while briefing Police Area Commanders and other high ranking officers of the Anambra Police Command at the State Police Headquarters Amawbia recently.
He tasked them on the need to ensure that INEC materials and personnel are adequately protected, stressing that the Police cannot afford to fail the society at this critical period. Ogbizi also advised the Police Officers to endeavour to work in synergy and harmony with other security agencies to ensure adequate security during the elections.
Speaking at a stakeholder’s forum on the same issue at the Anambra State Police Headquarters in Amawbia, Awka South Council Area, he assured stakeholders that the Police will provide a level playing ground for all parties involved in the elections. While allaying fears over the fire incident at the INEC Anambra State Headquarters, he noted that the incident notwithstanding, the elections will hold. He was optimistic that the Police will provide adequate security to forestall any re-occurrences.
Presenting his remarks at the occasion, the Commissioner of Police in the Anambra State Command, Mustapha Dandaura reiterated that the Anambra Police Command is ever ready to take on any challenges that will come up during the elections.
In his response, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Oye, who is one of the stakeholders, thanked the DIG and his officers for the provision of security in Anambra State. Other speakers at the event were Aghanya Ibe (Retired Commissioner of Police and APC Chieftain) and the PRO of IPAC, Chijioke Onykanwu.
