Presidency, Justice Minister confirms Magu’s suspension, Umar’s Appointment

The Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice (HAGF), Abubakar Malami, SAN has confirmed the suspension of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This confirmation came in a statement from the Ministry, issued by the Special Assistant to the HAGF on Media and Public Relations, Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, Friday 10th July, 2020.

The statement reads. “President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate suspension of Ibrahim Magu as Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in order to allow for unhindered inquiry by the Presidential Investigation Panel under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act and other relevant laws”.

He also confirmed the appointment of EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, to take charge and oversee the activities of the Commission.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has also confirmed that the EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, should take charge and oversee the activities of the Commission pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation and further directives in that regards”, the statement also confirmed.
