The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, has said that 5,000 women are to benefit from the on-going Federal Government Special Cash Grant for rural Women, drawn from the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Minister disclosed this during the flag off ceremony of the project in Abuja.
She said the cash grant of N20,000 per beneficiary is expected to increase income and productive assets of target beneficiaries “It is our hope that the beneficiaries of this programme will make good use of the grant to generally contribute towards improving their living standards.
“It is designed to provide a one-off grant to some of the poorest and most vulnerable women in rural and peri-urban areas of the country. I am optimistic that with the support and cooperation of the Honourable Minister of FCT and other stakeholders present here, we will remain on track of lifting 100 million out of poverty by 2030” she added.
Earlier, the Honourable Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for initiating the programme “You will agree with me that the launch of this programme is a bold statement by the government. It is reiterating the readiness of this administration to do all that is necessary to join the comity of nations to fight the global economic down turn and to put in place the needed shocks to withstand any future eventualities”.
She said the President is putting all hands on deck and ensuring that all his Ministers especially the Ministry through which this is domiciled is doing the best to reach and uplift the down trodden. That is why we salute the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, because it is not easy, FCTA is convinced of its roles to provide the right environment for this to happen within the FCT and committed to support the Minister and all development actors to realise this objective.
She thanked the Minister for her zeal and determination towards the realisation of the people’s oriented programme.
