The Independent Monitors engaged by the Federal Government for the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP), currently undergoing training across all states of the federation have been charged to be patriotic in the duties to achieve the vision of Mr. President of lifting 100million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years.
The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, gave the charge at the Opening ceremony of the training programme organised by the Ministry for Monitors in Gombe State.
Speaking through her representative, Abubakar Mohammed, the Minister disclosed that 87 Independent Monitors are been trained in Gombe State to monitor programme beneficiaries in their locality, with the focus of ensuring that the primary objectives of the programmes are achieved.
She urged the Monitors to carry out their tasks with utmost diligence, sincerity and patriotism. “The NSIP was created by President Muhammad u Buhari in 2016 with the mandate of lifting citizens out of poverty through a number of social interventions which include Job creation programmes – N POWER, National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP), Conditional cash transfer programme (CCT) and the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP). These programmes were moved to the Federal Ministry of humanitarian Affairs, Disaster management and social development, in 2019 following the creation of the Ministry.
“The scope of these programmes are large with about 13million citizens cross the 36 states and the FCT benefiting from the Federal government intervention” she stated.
The Gombe State Focal Person, Hajia Dijatu Bappah, told the Monitors that they were nominated based on trust and advised them to adhere strictly to laid down rules and regulations guiding their assignments.
She enjoined them to be trustworthy and avoid fraudulent activities.The Director, National Orientation Agency, in the state, Sarah Yapwa, stated that the National Social Intervention Programmes have empowered the Nigerian youths with skills which is aimed at reducing unemployment, alcoholism and drug abuse among the Nigerian youths.
She also said that the poor and vulnerable also benefited in the social intervention programmes of President Buhari’s administration.
