FIC Report (Abia State) – National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has kicked off an orientation for the Graduate Coaching Scheme (GCS) in Abia State.
The Training, which is under the Special Public Works Department was approved nationwide for implementation by the Director General of the NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo.
Speaking at Ibeku High School, Umuahia, the venue for the ceremony, Fikpo said the Graduate Coaching Scheme is a concept designed to help students and graduates of secondary schools that have deficiencies in their grades in JAMB, WAEC, NECO, GCE and NABTEB examinations to make up for such grades that will qualify them for admission into tertiary Institutions.
Fikpo was represented by the State Coordinator NDE, Abia State, Mrs Tessy Wachuku said it is also aimed at preparing and coaching students for both internal and external examinations.
His words, “The programme is equally developed to produce qualified, employable and marketable personnel for medium scale enterprise thereby reducing unemployment rates within the unemployed school leavers.
“Let me at this juncture point out that the Graduate Coaching scheme is currently being implemented in all the States of the Federation including FCT, with one centre in each of the senatorial districts of the country”, he said.
Fikpo also said, “The scheme though transient is a laudable one. This is because it avails students from poor homes the opportunity to receive coaching and do well in their final examinations. It also saves the parents money as the coaching is free for the students. It has also given the 36 graduate Instructors drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state opportunity to be gainfully employed during the period.
“I encourage you to make good use of this opportunity so as to make good grades in the examinations”.
Area Commander, Abia State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Mr Zach Nwaogbe, in his address sensitized the students and Instructors on the dangers of hard drugs.
He urged the Instructors to go the extra mile in making sure these students don’t get involved in the menace under their watch.
Mr Prince Asaga, one of the Instructors and Mr Emmanuel Madubuike, a student both appreciated the Federal government and NDE on behalf of their contemporaries and promised to abide by the tenets of the programme.
Also in a brief remark, the Head of Special Public Works, SPW of NDE Abia State, Mr. Michael Ubani, in his speech, urged the Instructors, students and participants to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the National Directorate of Employment to attend the coaching classes.
