Abia Government pledges Support to Transporters

The Deputy Governor, Chief Ikechukwu Emetu has warned motorists and commercial drivers to be mindful of where and who they pay their taxes and levies to in order to avoid multi taxing or paying into wrong quarters.

Chief Emetu who gave the warning when he paid an unscheduled visit to Aba Park in Umuahia North LGA following earlier reports of activities of touts and miscreants who mobilized themselves to extort money from the motorists.

The Deputy Governor lamented the unfortunate scenario where some individuals are sabotaging the State’s economy by extorting fines and levies from drivers and motorist and disclosed that the Dr Alex Otti’s led Govt has launched the new digital tax system which provides easy payment options for both transporters and traders, thereby promoting transparency in the system.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment towards curbing leakages and stopping multi taxation and stated that no one is authorized to collect any form of revenue that is not directed by the Governor through the SSA on IGR, Mr Chimereze Okeigbo.

Chief Emetu further used the opportunity to caution road side traders and tricycle operators around ishi gate who have almost covered the road with their wares to maintain reasonable distance from the road to avoid congestion and road blockage.

In his address earlier , the Chairman of Abia Line Network, Mr. Chukwudi Ike expressed gratitude to the Deputy Governor for his prompt response and intervention on the matter, while pledging the support of transporters to the Dr. Alex Otti’s led administration.
