The Honorable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar CON, mni has called for deeper security collaboration with Japan Government in order to boost both countries Military cooperation.
Badaru made the call when the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, MATSUNAGA KAZUYASHI paid him a courtesy visit on Thursday 14th September, 2023 at Ship House Abuja.
The Minster acknowledged Japan’s interest in Nigeria but stated that more collaboration is needed to be done to improve on the security of both countries. He said: “Let us work together the same way we work in the Gulf of Guinea.”
He thanked the Ambassador for the visit and added that his visit would open more doors for engagement and security collaboration to stem out insecurity in the country.
Earlier, the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Matsunaga Kazuyoshi said that the two countries have started plans to boost Military cooperation with the aim of improving security in both countries.
He pointed out that the Military cooperation plan was discussed at the security forum held in Abuja, Nigeria by the National Defence College and Japanese Maritime self Defence Force.
According to him, the Military Cooperation plan is to boost Military cooperation with the aim of improving security in countries, adding that the visit triggered more robust and substantially beneficial interaction between Nigeria Defence Forces generally and institutions in Nigeria.
Speaking on terrorism, the Ambassador said that terrorism has become more globalized and both countries need to work together collectively in sharing formation and intelligence which are keys for countering the terrorists.
“Military cooperation and intelligence sharing are important in order to wage the war against terrorism.”
