Niger State Government Plans to Contribute 50 Million Metric Tons of Assorted Food Crops to the National Strategic Grains Reserve

FIC Report (Niger State) – Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has disclosed that the State Government plans to contribute 50 million metric tons of food crops annually to the national strategic grains reserve by utilizing about 3 million hectares by 2030.

The farmer Governor stated this during a Town Hall meeting with critical stakeholders in the State, organised by the Office of the Personal Assistant to the President on Constituency Affairs, Khadijat Kareem Omotayo, in Minna.

Farmer Governor Umaru Bago who was represented by his Special Adviser on Social Investment Programmes, Hauwa Bako Muhammad reiterated that the State Government is ambitious to become the largest sub-national food exporter in Nigeria thereby contributing to economic growth and food security policy of the President.

The farmer Governor recounted Numerous efforts of his administration which cut across all sectors of the economy assured that the State Government, through the New Niger Agenda, will complement the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu .

In her remarks, the Personal Assistant to President Tinubu on Constituency Affairs, Khadijat Kareem Omotayo explained that the meeting was to know the plights of the people with a view to intimating the President for further positive actions.

She said the Federal Government is not oblivious of the economic situation in the Country and that the President is not resting on its oars in finding lasting solutions to the challenges facing the Nation.

She described Niger state as a unique State with great potentials in the Agricultural sector, pointing out that the economic importance of the several cattle grazing reserves in the State will not be overlooked.

The Personal Assistant to the President commended the farmer Governor for his many developmental policies which have brought about unity among the citizenry and assured the people of Niger State that all their pleas at the event would be presented to the President Tinubu.

The event which was characterised by suggestions, observations, and requests had various speakers who called for Federal Government intervention on insecurity in the State, development of critical infrastructure, improved social welfare for the vulnerable and Internally Displaced Persons, scholarships for students among other issues affecting the State to complement the efforts of farmer Governor Umaru Bago in state.
