FG Receives Robust Commitments From The Leprosy Mission Nigeria On Inclusive Policies

In a courtesy visit to Leprosy Mission Nigeria, today 17th October, 2024 in Abuja, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Chief Ayuba Gufwan applauded the commitments of the disability Partners on inclusive drive.

Addressing the meeting, the ES disclosed that the impact of TLM Programmes on the Commission and the Community of Persons with Disabilities resonates with the aspirations of PWDs in various clusters.

“It was the Missionaries from the Leprosy Mission that made it possible for me to access education as at the time I was diagnosed with Poliomyelitis” he narrated nostalgically.

Gufwan also seized the occasion to appeal to the Mission for more interventions in the projects already outlined by the Organization for the year 2025.

The Commission helmsman further stressed the importance of Data Collection for adequate planning as part of the 6 point Agenda of the Commission on Disability Inclusive project.

In his remarks, the National Director, Leprosy Mission Nigeria, Dr. Sunday Udoh identified priority areas in the communication strategy of the organization and urged the Commission to seize the opportunity to advance its mandate.

Udoh equally mentioned that the Commission needs to agitate for a specific fraction of the National budget to be set aside as disability Sustainable Allowance for Persons With Disabilities.

He, therefore, assured the Commission of absolute support in various capacities to ensure a seamless partnership through 2025.
