International White Cane Safety Day

The senior special assistant to the president on special needs and equal opportunities (SSAP) paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Bauchi HRH, Dr Rilwan Suleiman Adamu in commemoration of the “international white cane safety day” held in collaboration with the Nigerian association of the blind (NAB),on 15th October 2024, in Bauchi state.

The importance of the white cane, is recognized as a symbol of independence, freedom and empowerment for persons with visual impairments.

The white cane, enable millions visually impaired worldwide, to navigate their environment safely and confidently promoting their inclusion and participation in the society.

The event featured a road walk aimed at raising awareness about the significance of the white cane which helps in mobility and independence of the blind.

The Emir, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the celebration, and also pledged commitment to supporting future initiatives for Pwd’s in Bauchi state.

Furthermore, the SSAP also expressed deep gratitude to the Emir and Bauchi state government at large, for their ongoing support of disability related programs and their commendable disability policies.

The visit emphasized the importance of collaboration between traditional institutions and the federal government in advancing the welfare and rights of persons with disabilities.
