Kano State Government Takes Steps to Enhance Transportation System

FIC Report (Kano State) – The Kano State Government has inaugurated a technical committee to develop a comprehensive transport policy green paper, marking a significant step towards improving the state’s transportation system. This move is expected to address the challenges impeding modern, efficient, and effective transportation systems in the state, largely necessitated by the increasing population and commercial status of Kano.

According to Ibrahim Adamu Kofar Nassarawa, Information Officer at the Ministry of Transport, the committee’s primary objective is to review the transport policy draft document and develop a full transport policy that suits the state’s peculiarities. The 30-member committee, comprising various stakeholders, is mandated to conduct a general review of transport policy plans and factor in other options where applicable.

The Kano State Government recognizes the importance of transportation in enhancing economic growth and development. As such, the state has identified key sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, technology, energy, and tourism, to focus on for economic development. The transportation system plays a vital role in facilitating the growth of these sectors.

The committee is expected to submit its completed policy green paper by November 18th. Experts, including Professor Ibrahim Barde and Dr. Nura Ibrahim Hassan, have praised the initiative, highlighting its potential to enhance economic growth. Committee Chairman, Professor Afolabi Falola, stressed the importance of focusing on transportation to move the state forward.

The development of a comprehensive transport policy is a crucial step towards achieving sustainable economic growth in Kano State. With the committee’s efforts, the state is poised to strengthen its transportation system, ultimately contributing to its economic development and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens.
