FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – Nasarawa state Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule has called on Nigerians to support the Nigeria Legion especially the families of the fallen heroes who have sacrifice their lives in the course of defending territorial integrity of the their father Land.
He made the called during the launching the 2025 Armed Forces remembrance Emblem held in Lafia, recently.
Governor Sule while announcing the donation of twenty five million naira (25 million) support unbehalf of the state government, to the Nigerian Legion, especially to the families of the fallen heroes in the state, also called on well spirited individuals to see the need for supporting the families of those who have sacrifice their lives for their fathers Land.
He noted that the event provides Nigerians opportunity to pay tributes to members of Nigerian armed forces who had paid the supreme price in defending nation and humanity as a whole.
He pointed out that, It is for these reasons that the annual armed forces remembrance day celebration is been set aside not only to pay tributes to our past heroes; but also to honour those that are still alive.
He maintained that the emblem appeal launch gives the people an opportunity to demonstrate their love to the Nigerian Legion for the sacrifices they make for the general wellbeing.
Engineer Sule congratulated members of the Nigerian Legion Nasarawa State chapter for the historic event and applauded their exemplary conducts to successive administrations over the years which has go along way in promoting peace and harmonious coexistence among diverse ethnic nationalities.
The Governor recounted the unfortunate and tragic experience of a bitter and gruesome 30 months civil war fought to maintain Nigeria as a united country between 1969-1970 which led to colossal loss of lives and properties.
“While some of these challenges are seemingly under control, some still persist with devastating consequences in our collective survival as the military continue to uphold the unity and territorial integrity of our nation assuring us of a future not only of ourselves but generations yet unborn ,” he said.
He called on both government and private organizations to ensure that they engage the services of the Legionnaires were necessary so as to enable have something doing after retirement.
The Governor equally commiserated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the demise of his Chief of Army Staff Lt. General Taoreet Lagbajawho died in active service.
Speaking earlier, the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development Aisha Rufai Ibrahim said the launch of the emblem appeal fund marks the beginning of activities that heralds the 2025 armed forces remembrance day celebration in Nasarawa State.
The Commissioner outlined series of activities observed during each annual celebration to include; the launch of emblem appeal fund across all tiers of government, prayers would be offered in mosques and churches and it will be culminated with a solemn parade and wreath laying on memorial tomb of the unknown soldiers who lost their lives on the 15th of January, 2025.
In his address, the Chairman Nigerian Legion, Nasarawa State Chapter Col. Hamidu Almajiri said there is no need to over emphasize the Armed Forces Remembrance Day as the primary objective is to honour the fallen heroes who fought gallantly to ensure the country integrity is secured.
He pointed out that the legion is saddled with the responsibility of fending for the welfare and needs of the families of our fallen heroes.
The Chairmen of the legionnaires equally use the medium to solicited the support of individuals, organizations and corporate entities to enable the legion meet it’s obligations.
