COP29: Niger State Delegation Holds “Niger Day” With Global Communities

FIC Report (Niger State) – Niger State delegation at the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), has continued to actively participate in the Conference.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alh. Usman Abubakar has led the team to engage global communities in a conversation centred on the Green Economy initiative of farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.

The gathering tagged “Niger Day” was at the Nigeria Pavilion in Baku Olympic Stadium, and it attracted leaders from the public and private sectors, where the Niger State efforts in the Green Economy initiative, climate action, sustainability targets and the energy transition among other issues were discussed.

The platform also provided opportunity for the State delegation to showcase its green potentials and enumerate some progress made after the COP28 held in Dubai which include the establishment of the Niger State Agency for Green Initiative, several engagements with national and International consulting firms to enhance the technical and managerial capacity of the State in implementing its Green Economy Blueprint.

The State delegation is expected to deepen its collaborative engagements and networking to woo investors especially on carbon market to achieve its ambition of greening the State and contribute to the targets for Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)and Net zero emission, even as it has open discussions with the Climate Action Center of Excellence (CACE) for a mutually beneficial relationship.
