The Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement, (BPP), Dr. Adebowale Adedokun assumes office and reiterated his commitment to achieve President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that Nigeria’s narrative will change for a Sustainable Development.
Dr. Adebowale made this known during the hand-over ceremony from the out gone Acting DG, Barrister Olusegun Omotola. The event took place in the Conference Room of the office on Monday, November 18, 2024.
He thanked Mr. President for the opportunity given to him and hopes to do his best in the procurement sector.
The DG said, he would not compromise merit and quality in handling any procurement work, adding that, Nigeria will be in, for good things and quality services from the Bureau of Public Procurement sector.
He said, we would develop necessary tools to achieve results.
Dr. Adebowale emphasized that, “We must deliver for this Government on electronics procurement system, we will encourage women and youth empowerment programs”. Adding, “We will work with the 36 states of the federation to institutionalize procurement as BPP is a tool for government development”. He however solicited for the support of all staff to succeed.
Earlier before handing over, the former Acting DG, Barrister, Olusegun Omotola, thanked the President for the opportunity he had to serve in Acting Capacity in the Bureau and for the appointment of Dr. Adebowale Adedokun.
He reeled out his achievements in which he had in a short period as; adoption of an open door policy, which, he said, has helped to better understand the challenges staff are going through and to discuss solutions to the challenges on the spot.
He said, there was improvement in turn-around time for review operations and drastic reduction in the number of approvals for Special/Restricted Tendering, adding that, the practice of the influx of contractors to the Bureau has stopped.
In the area of salary improvement for the staff, he said significant progress has been made to improve the salary of staff, also a number of reform initiative have been made.
He pointed out a number of challenges that need to be addressed immediately to include office accommodation, funding limitation, need for more staff and the digitalization of Bureau’s operators amongst others.
He thanked all members of staff for their cooperation during his term and wish the new DG the best.
In his vote of thanks, Engr. Nasir Bello, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for “the appointment of one of us”, pointing out that, all hands must be on deck for the new DG to succeed. He pledged the loyalty of the staff for the DG to succeed in his assignment.
