The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in the country.

The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim gave the assurance, Thursday, during a webinar via zoom, themed: Voice Across Nigeria, A Call for Nigerian Women to Fight Against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.

She assured that the Ministry will undertake policy reviews, necessary interventions, and push for a review of legal instruments to strengthen the laws against SGBV with a view to ensuring that offenders are prosecuted and face the consequences of their actions.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasized the need for decisive action to deter would-be perpetrators, describing SGBV as a societal challenge that affects everyone regardless of social status.

The Minister also stressed the need for more safe homes and support for survivors, emphasizing further the importance of tapping into resources from developmental partners and aligning with a national action plan to accelerate progress.

According to her, the fight against SGBV is a collective responsibility, and every effort counts in creating a safer and more equitable society for all Nigerians.

The Wife of Kwara State Governor, Professor Olufolake Abdulrasaq, commended the Minister for the initiative, expressing optimism that the Ministry’s efforts will help reduce SGBV cases in the Nigeria.

With the Ministry’s renewed commitment and collaborative efforts from stakeholders, Nigeria is poised to make significant strides in eradicating Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.
