Balarabe Assures CRDCU Of His Commitment To Ministerial Deliverables

The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal has assured the Special Adviser to the President on Policy & Coordination of his commitment to the Ministerial Deliverables in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration and performance bond signed with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.

Balarabe ably represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mahmud Adam Kambari stated this recently in Abuja during the engagement with Ministries on the 1st-3rd Quarters 2024 Performance Assessment Reports on Implementation of Presidential Priorities and Ministerial Deliverables.

Balarabe noted that the achievements of the Ministry showcased the zeal of the entire staff of the Ministry in mitigating environmental challenges in the Country.

The Minister further assured the Ministry’s readiness to align itself with all the comments and recommendations made by the task team for better data collation and submission.

He also commended the SAPPC and her team for their support, guidance to the Ministry and the Head of Agencies in pivoting their roles towards the success of the Ministry.

Earlier in her opening remarks, Hajia Hadiza Bala Usman, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy & Coordination and Head, Central Result Delivery Coordinating Unit (CRDCU) disclosed that the 1st-3rd quarter 2024 Performance report on the implementation of Presidential priorities and Ministerial Deliverables review showed that in Q1 , 20 indicators was assembled, 7 scored below 50 percent, while in Q2, score at least 75 percent was recorded and one was not assessed.

Hajiya Hadiza further revealed that the general observation showed that almost all the data submitted for Q1-Q3 was accessible except two indicators which amounted to a challenge in data quality or data handling practices over time.

Bala Usman also revealed that the findings has shown the varying level of performance observed across Ministries, Poor data management, limited participation and delay in the completion of procurement process.

She urged Ministries to address and escalate any issues that may deter the ability to achieve their targets, “Always provide accurate and reliable data as source of evidence, Adjust deliverable targets to be more ambitious yet achievable, Implement tracking systems for timely review and feedback, Mitigate Miscreant activities and Improve site accessibility as well as Strengthen data collection and Report processes,” she added.

The review also contained the outlook for Q4 2024 high impact Deliverables which included support for the implementation of National Climate Change Policy, Accelerate implementation of the Clean-Up Ogoni Land and environs, Effectively implement nationwide afforestation measures to mitigate the effects of desertification and deforestation and issuance of Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA).

The Director of Planning Research and Statistics and the Ministry desk officer, Mallam Stanley Jonah in his vote of thank appreciated the Task team for always attending to its call for clarification and the Ministry’s Agencies for contributing their quota to the overall success of the environmental sector.
