FIC Report (Abia State) – The Deputy Governor of Abia State Engr Ikechukwu Emetu has stated that Abia State Government is committed to fostering a business friendly environment that will unlock opportunities for economic growth, attract investment and support our entrepreneurs and small business owners.
He made this statement in his opening speech on the occasion of the stakeholders meeting for the drafting of the 2024 Business Enabling Reform and action plan (BERAH), which was held at JAAC building Umuahia Abia state.
Engr Emetu who is also the Chairman of Ease of Doing Business) EODB said “this meeting is not just a gathering, it is a significant milestone in our collective journey towards improving the ease of doing business in our beloved state”.
Engr Emetu noted that the SABER project which has brought Abia State at the level they are today business wise is a testament to the dedication of this administration to create an enabling environment that encourages sustainable development, economic diversification and social inclusivity.
He therefore urged all the participants to actively engage, contribute practical insights, and ensure that the final documents are not only comprehensive but also realistic and implementable.
“As we deliberate and draft the 2024 BERAP, let us remember the critical role of this document in setting the tone for the state’s economic landscape in the coming year.”
Earlier in her speech the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Ease of Doing Business Council, Barr Agbonma Jennifer Uka-obasi noted that the Objective of the Business Enabling Reforms and Action Plan (BERAP), is to enhance collaboration between MDAs and the Private Sector for effective implementation of State Action on Business Enabling Reform Project (SABER) for compliance and efficient implementation of SABER verification protocols for Business Enabling Reforms.
She pointed out that the major problem of infrastructure and issues of taxation made the federal government developed programme that each state will on its own ensure that it’s business environment is conducive to ensure that people and businesses are attracted and fruitful “it will translate to IGR and add to the growth of the state”.
She commended the state of Governor Dr. Alex Otti for providing a conducive environment to growth in Abia State by providing basic infrastructure in Abia State.
The event featured paper representation by Chief Calistus Chukwu on Ensuring Compliance and Effective implementation of SABER Verification Protocol for Business Enabling Reforms, Attractive section/ Q& A section and the event attracted the presence of government functionaries and Stakeholders from the ease of doing business and other notable personalities.
