The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, MCIPS, ACFE, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja,
During the visit, Dr. Adedokun emphasized the long-standing partnership between the BPP and EFCC in promoting good governance and ensuring transparency in Nigeria’s procurement processes.
Highlighting the synergy between both agencies, he noted that effective information sharing between the BPP and EFCC would significantly reduce fraud in procurement activities and strengthen accountability across public institutions.
The Director-General further outlined his vision for repositioning and restructuring the BPP by leveraging digitalization to enhance efficiency and transparency in procurement. He underscored the need for regular surveillance, audits, and reports on infractions to ensure open competition in the bidding process for government contracts.
Dr. Adedokun called for enhanced collaboration between the BPP and EFCC in areas such as procurement fraud detection and risk assessment to mitigate corruption in public sector processes.
Dr. Adedokun also sought the EFCC Chairman’s assistance in resolving the office space challenges currently faced by the Bureau. Additionally, he briefed Mr. Olukoyede about the upcoming National Conference on Public Procurement, organized in collaboration with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and EFCC, aimed at fostering dialogue and innovation in procurement practices.
In his response, Mr. Ola Olukoyede commended the BPP’s leadership and its commitment to upholding integrity in public procurement. He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between both agencies, noting that over 90% of corruption cases in Nigeria stem from public sector fraud, particularly in contract and procurement processes. The EFCC Chairman reiterated the importance of ensuring that the 2025 national budget is fully implemented in line with the Procurement Act, emphasizing transparency and compliance.
Mr. Olukoyede assured the BPP delegation of his support in addressing their office space issue and expressed his intention to visit the Bureau in the near future to further strengthen the partnership.
The courtesy visit underscored the shared mandate of both agencies in fostering accountability, transparency, and good governance for the benefit of all Nigerians.
