FIC Report (Abia State) – The Office of the First Lady of Abia State, in conjunction with Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, under the Renewed Hope Initiative in the event tagged “Empowering Abilities: Illuminating MSMEs with Solar Solutions,” has empowered the people living with disabilities ( PLWD) with Solar Energy.

Mrs. Priscillia Otti reassured that the state government will continue to consider the interest of persons with disabilities in all its programs and policies in the state.

The Abia first lady stated this during the distribution of Tubu Solar Energy Systems to 100 beneficiaries of Persons living with disabilities as a way to support to their micro, small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Mrs. Otti emphasized that the program was designed to equip individuals, especially women, youths, and other vulnerable groups, with the necessary skills and resources to harness solar energy for economic and social benefits.

“This initiative is not just about distributing solar equipment but about creating opportunities, breaking barriers, and reinforcing our commitment to an inclusive society where every entrepreneur, regardless of ability, has the tools to thrive,” she stated.

She reiterated that the initiative seeks to tackle Nigeria electricity challenges by promoting solar energy use in underserved communities.

“Beneficiaries will also receive training in solar panel installation, maintenance, and entrepreneurship, thereby creating additional income-generating opportunities.”

Mrs. Otti pointed out the significant advantages of solar energy for small businesses, including extended working hours, cost reduction, and improved productivity. She, however, added that the program includes business registration support and capacity-building training.

In her own speech, the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Mrs Blessings Felix said the present administration is disability friendly and has demonstrated it by setting up a commission for welfare of persons with disabilities and empowering them in various positions.

Also speaking the CEO of TUDU Energy, Mr. Tayo Dudu highlighted the features of the solar systems, which include:

  1. A 100-watt battery
  2. A 30-watt solar panel
  3. Four LED bulbs
