FIC Report (Benue State) – Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has appealed to the people of Kwande Local Government Area, particularly the women protesting the security situation, to remain calm as his administration intensifies efforts to restore peace in the region. This was conveyed in a press statement issued on Saturday, 8th March 2025, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula.

The Governor expressed deep concern over the persistent attacks on Kwande communities by armed herders, questioning why Kwande and Ukum have become recent targets despite relative peace in other parts of the state.

He reassured the people of Kwande and Ukum of his administration’s commitment to swift and decisive action against the attackers, describing their actions as “remorseless barbarism” that will soon be eradicated.

“I share your pain and assure you that we will step up our response promptly and effectively. Read my lips—this remorseless barbarity by these assailants and their sponsors will soon be a thing of the past.”

Governor Alia reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to Kwande, Ukum, and the entire Benue State, emphasizing that his administration has never and will never abandon them. He pledged to ensure that Benue remains free from armed herdsmen attacks.

He extended his sympathies to the victims of the recent attacks and called on security agencies to intensify their efforts in apprehending and prosecuting those responsible for the violence.

Additionally, the Governor warned against individuals using his name to incite controversy in Kwande and other parts of the state. He emphasized that he governs for all and remains dedicated to the welfare of every citizen, particularly the masses.
