FIC Report (Sokoto State) – The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Sokoto State Government, have committed a whooping N7 billion to upgrade the education sector in Sokoto State.
The Sokoto State Chairman, Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Nagwari Umar Tambuwal, made the assertion while briefing Journalists in Sokoto on Friday, 8th March, 2025.
The Chairman, explained that the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, has contributed 50 % of the amount while the remaining balance was provided by the Sokoto State Government. According to him, at least 4,000 primary School Teachers are going to be trained to improve their capacity building. Shehu Shagari College of Education and Shehu Shagari University of Education would train 2000 teachers each. The Board aimed to train 8,000 teachers before the end of the year 2025.
Currently, there are approximately 25,000 teachers on the Sokoto State Government payroll. He emphasized that Education is the bedrock of development and training of teachers and providing necessary resources for its growth is an investment for the future. The Board has also initiated a verification exercise to identify and address ghost teachers, ensuring that Government resources are utilized effectively.
The Chairman commended the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu for implementing the new national minimum wage for Primary School teachers which has been increased to N70,000. He urged the teachers to reciprocate the gesture by fulfilling their mandates and promised to sustain teachers’ promotions and other welfare incentives as and when due.
