FIC Report (Ebonyi State) – President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has flagged-off a state-of-the-art cancer treatment center at the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS) in Ebonyi State.
President Tinubu who was represented by Senator David Umahi, Minister of Works, during the Flag-off held at DUFUHS in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Said the cancer centre will provide top-notch facilities and patient care services.
According to works Minister, the cancer center will combine scientific theory and practice to manage cancer and related diseases effectively.
The DUFUHS Cancer centre will integrate Scientific theory and practice in management of people with cancer and related diseases,” he said.
At the launch, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Jessy Uneke, outlined the centre’s functions, highlighting its commitment to integrating scientific theory and practice in cancer management.
Uneke said the DUFUHS Cancer Centre will undertake cutting-edge research in cancer, leveraging the latest technologies to advance evidence-based practice.
He said the key areas of focus include: Conducting rigorous periodic cancer surveillance and basic scientific research to understand cancer causes, mechanisms, and molecular changes, developing lifesaving and life-prolonging interventions for patients, Developing technologies for more accurate cancer detection, diagnosis, and treatment and Sharing scientific findings, expertise, data amongst others.
According to Prof. Uneke, the centre’s mission is to provide excellent patient care services while advancing cancer research and treatment.
The Chief Executive Officer of Tanit Medical Engineering, Mr. Anthony Nateis, expressed optimism about the centre’s potential, stating that it will “end the lost hope in cancer management in the Country.” With the launch of the DUFUHS Cancer Centre, Nigeria takes a significant step forward in the fight against cancer.
