Keyamo Engages Aviation Unions- Reached Resolutions To End Strike

Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, FCIArb (UK), has successfully mediated discussions with striking aviation unions, securing key resolutions to address their grievances and restore industrial harmony in the sector.

Convening a high-level meeting today at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja, attended by union leaders and heads of aviation agencies, the Minister urged the unions to suspend their strike and return to dialogue, emphasizing government’s commitment to resolving all outstanding issues.

In attendance were: Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni, Director General, Nigera Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, Director General, Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charlse Anosike, Officials from Nimet, Representatives of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), led by Comrade Ochema Aba (General Secretary) and Comrade Uzor Samuel Oluchi (Deputy President), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professional (ANAP), Comrade, Alade Adedayo (President General), and Comrade , Ambore Samson (Chairman) etc

Arising from the meeting, Keyamo noted that the engagement was cordial and fruitful, stating that there were no major disagreements on key issues. He attributed the current situation to gaps in communication between the Ministry and the unions.

He further emphasized the Ministry’s longstanding cordial relationship with the unions and affirmed the Ministry’s alignment with their demands, which he described as legitimate and deserving of attention.

Key Resolutions Reached:

Salary Relativity; 2024; Implementation of Minimum Wage; 2019 Consequential Adjustment; Allowances (25-35% Award & 40% Peculiar Allowance);Subsistence Allowance; Approved for immediate payment from 25th April 2025, with annual reviews;
Staff Training; Role Clarification: Clear guidelines on Contract staff, Special Assistants ; Review of Conditions of Service.

Keyamo reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to workers’ welfare, citing his and the Permanent Secretary’s labour-friendly backgrounds. He assured continuous engagement until all issues are fully resolved.

Comrade Alade Adedayo, President of ANAP, thanked the Honourable Minister for his swift intervention and described the outcome as a step in the right direction. He promised to convey the resolutions to their members and continue engaging with the Ministry to ensure full implementation.
