
In a significant step towards improving the efficiency and effectiveness in Nigeria, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, MCIPS, ACFE, has announced the Bureau intention to partner with the Charted Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). This was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the CILT delegation to the Bureau’s headquarters in Abuja.
Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Adedokun emphasized that logistics and transportation, though critical to the Procurement cycle has been widely under presented in procurement planning and execution. He stated that integrating logistics and transport into procurement framework is essential for reducing cost and efficiency.
As a regulatory body, whose primary responsibility is to set standards, guidelines on how procurement should be practice in Nigeria. The Bureau recognizes the need for support from experts and professional organization who already has members to effectively integrate logistics and transport into procurement system. Dr. Adedokun emphasized that the Bureau is therefore relies on professional bodies such as CILT to provide the necessary technical expertise, policies and standards, necessary to mainstream logistics into public procurement.
The DG requested that CILT to share it professional guidelines and policies with the Bureau to support this integration effort. He further highlighted the BPP ongoing reforms is aimed at reducing turnaround times, improving efficiency and minimizing human influence in procurement outcomes.
Open competition remains the most effective strategy for reducing poverty. Dr. Adedokun added has it allows communities across Nigeria to actively participate in government projects.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Ambassador Antonia Ekpa (PhD) congratulated Dr. Adedokun on his well -deserved appointment as the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement. She thanked Mr. President for the opportunity. Reiterating CILT’s readiness to collaborate with BPP. She outlined several proposed areas of partnership includes:
 Professional capacity building certification
 Technical support for sustainable procurement
 Research and policy advocacy
 Support e-procurement initiative
 Establishment of professional networking platforms
 Promotion and recognition of procurement.
The Chairman of the CITL Abuja, Dr. Emmanuel Nnwodi, FCILT, who lead the CITL team, assured the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) of CILT committed to building a mutually beneficial relationship. This partnership is expected to strengthen procurement practices across public institutions in Nigeria and foster professionalism in the sector.
