FIC Report (Katsina State) – The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in collaboration with the Katsina State Bureau of Statistics, today hosted the 2025 First Biannual Meeting of the National Consultative Committee on Statistics (NCCS) in Katsina State.
This significant gathering brought together statisticians and key stakeholders from across Nigeria to strengthen coordination in statistical development and promote the use of accurate data for national and sub-national planning.
In his address, the Statistician-General of the Katsina State Bureau of Statistics, Professor Saifullahi Sani Ibrahim, expressed deep appreciation to the Katsina State Government for its immense contributions to advancing data generation and usage in the state. He noted that Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda, Ph.D., CON, has consistently demonstrated strong political will by supporting all initiatives from the Bureau, reaffirming that any proposal from the Bureau receives prompt approval.
The meeting was officially declared open by the Executive Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency Malam Dikko Umar Radda, Ph.D., CON, who was ably represented by the Deputy Governor, Malam Faruq Lawal. In his opening remarks, the Deputy Governor warmly welcomed participants and emphasized the centrality of data in shaping government policy and development strategy. He also highlighted Governor Radda’s achievements across key sectors agriculture, education, security, and more as part of the administration’s vision for a prosperous and forward-looking Katsina State.
The Statistician-General of the Federation and CEO of the NBS, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, delivered the keynote address, reaffirming the NBS’s commitment to evidence-based planning and harmonized statistical systems across all levels of government.
A lead paper titled “Promoting Development at the Sub-national Level Through Improved State GDP Compilation” was delivered by renowned economist Professor Ode Ojowu, followed by a series of technical sessions chaired by senior statistical officials, including the Statistician-General of Nigeria.
Katsina State is honored to host this prestigious event, which underscores its growing leadership in promoting data-driven governance and strategic development planning.
The meeting recorded robust attendance, including representatives from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, national economic coordinators, the Statistician-General of the Federation, and State Statisticians-General from all 36 states of the federation. Members of the Katsina State Executive Council were also in attendance, including the Hon. Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Malam Malik Anas, the Commissioner for Lands, the Commissioner for Justice, and the Head of Service. Development partners such as UNICEF and other national and international organizations were also represented.
