The Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, flagged off a two-day ministerial retreat focused on the development and implementation of the 2025 Ministerial Performance Management System (PMS) for the education sector.
The participants include the management staff of the Ministry and its agencies. The retreat aimed to create a strategic roadmap for improving service delivery, fostering accountability, and aligning performance goals with national service mandates.
In her remarks, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, emphasized the critical importance of the PMS in driving performance excellence and addressing systemic inefficiencies. She highlighted that the initiative is key to embedding a culture of responsibility, transparency, and responsiveness across the Ministry.
Prof. Ahmad further called on staff to remain focused and fully engaged, noting that their commitment is essential for the successful adoption of the system. She stressed the PMS’s potential to ensure culturally responsive policies and improve education service outcomes.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Abel Olumiyiwa Enitan, delivered a keynote address in which he described the PMS as a vital communication and management tool. He stated that the system is instrumental in enhancing fairness and transparency, while institutionalizing performance standards in line with national service delivery guidelines.
Obi Edwary Bikom, representing the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, provided detailed insights into the current status of PMS implementation and outlined expectations for the 2025 performance cycle. He emphasized the importance of a comprehensive and proactive approach in ensuring system-wide adoption.
Frandek International Consulting Ltd., the facilitator of the retreat, is expected to provide expert guidance on leveraging the PMS as a strategic driver for improved outcomes in the education sector.
The event is a call to action, reinforcing the Ministry’s commitment to performance, accountability, and transparency as central pillars for educational reform and national development.
