FIC Report (Benue State) – The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, today visited Benue State following recent tragic attacks that led to the loss of lives in some communities.
Accompanied by top-ranking police officers, including the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations), DIG Yakubu Kwazhi, mni; DIG Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, fdc (Logistics & Supply); AIG Zone 4, AIG Zachariah Fera; and CP SIS, CP Abayomi Shogunle, the IGP expressed deep concern over the killings and emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to restoring peace in the affected areas.
At the Government House in Makurdi, the IGP was received by the Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia. The Governor commended the IGP for his timely visit and for the ongoing deployment of security personnel and resources to the state. IGP Egbetokun condemned the attacks, describing them as “senseless and terrorist in nature,” and assured the Governor of the Police Force’s determination to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The IGP also visited Yelwata Community in Guma Local Government Area, where he assessed the extent of the destruction and sympathized with affected residents. He was joined by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa. The Police Chief promised to bolster security presence in the area and directed the immediate deployment of additional tactical units and assets. DIG Kwazhi has been assigned to oversee these operations and ensure swift restoration of peace.
Wrapping up his visit, IGP Egbetokun addressed officers at the Benue State Police Command headquarters. He pledged improved welfare and logistical support to enable personnel confront ongoing security threats effectively.
The Nigeria Police Force, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s security agenda, reassures the people of Benue and the nation of its unwavering resolve to restore safety and bring all criminals involved in these heinous acts to justice.
