………….As PS Signs 2025 Contract with Directors.
As the Ministry of Interior gets set to roll out the Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS), the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani has unveiled INTERAS as its name. The unveiling was the high point of the performance contract signing ceremony of the directors of the Ministry with the Permanent Secretary.
In her address, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani expressed delight at the high level of engagement and creativity shown by all departments in the internal naming competition launched to give the ECMS initiative a unique and culturally resonant identity.
She said with INTERAS now formally named, the journey to the formal launch of the ECMS has begun, as the Ministry is poised to lead the change in efficient, paperless governance, ensuring greater transparency, accountability, and service delivery.
In recognition of outstanding contributions, the Press and Public Relations Department and Internal Audit were announced as the winners for submitting the selected name. Both departments and the individuals who proposed the name were recognised and rewarded for their unwavering commitment and relentless push towards the realization of this visionary project.
The Permanent Secretary disclosed that the revalidation of 2024 targets would help to
complete first and second quarters appraisals for 2025 promptly, ensure that all employees have performance contracts in the Ministry and align departmental plans with MPMS deliverables to prepare adequately for the upcoming Head of Service Performance Retreat.
There was an in-house retreat for the review of the 2024 Employees Performance Management System which culminated in the 2025 Performance Contract with the theme: Delivering Results for National Security: Performance Programmes and the Path Forward
Speaking at the forum the Permanent Secretary Dr. Magdalene Ajani said the review of the 2024 Performance Management Contract was necessary to strengthen the effective performance Management System across the Departments and agencies of the Ministry of Interior as part of the ongoing reform of the Nigerian Civil Service.
Dr. Magdalene Ajani in the internal engagement session with Departmental representatives, that was held from July 28 to 31, 2025 in the Ministry emphasised the need for clear and measurable standards of performance to enhance public service delivery.
The session discussed the importance of full implementation of Ministerial Performance Management System (MPMS) adoption and integration into, Departmental planning and individual performance. Dr. Ajani encouraged all staff to take ownership of their Key Performance Indicators, adhere to the deadlines, and participate actively in the MPMS cycle. She also stressed that, the ultimate aim is accountability, transparency, and effective service delivery in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government
The review focused on redefining what “Performance” means within the Ministry’s operational context as it relates to the Ministerial Performance Management System (MPMS) which the Minister signed with the President in alignment with the Ministry’s Mandate.
The Chief Executive and Lead Consultant, Zimedy Services, Engr. Usen Udoh explained that as part of the Performance Management System (PMS) rollout, the Ministry of Interior is working toward aligning all Departmental activities with standardised Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure improved productivity, transparency, and citizen satisfaction. It’s also focused on measurable performance that aligns with the broader vision of the Federal Government to build a more responsive, professional, and people centered civil service.
The representative of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Funmilola Salawu, who is a staff of Performance Management Department said the Ministry of interior has demonstrated strong commitment to institutionalising the Performance Management System (PMS) by dedicating four days to intensive refresher courses and a thorough review of their 2024 performance which includes top management staff of the ministry, the Permanent Secretary actively participated, emphasising the importance of accountability. Each department defended their performance, followed by a re-review and contract signing for the new year.
She said this process meant that directors fully understood and took ownership of their commitments, marking a significant step in embedding PMS in the Ministry’s operations.
