FIC Report (Benue State) – Honorable Douglas Terkume Akya member representing Makurdi South on Wednesday 30th July 2025. Presented a Bill for a Law to include free health care and a guaranteed minimum pension for Retirees and Benue State Agency Against Quackery and for other Matters Connected therewith 2025.
In an interview with journalist at the Assembly Complex Makurdi he said Quarks have taken over our health sector causing a lot of deaths even those who are said to be professionals do not follow laid down medical principles. He called for an agency that will monitor the activities of the health sector.
He also called for the increase in pensions of senior citizens who have served and retired in the State. He disclosed that some people received as low as four thousand naira (4000) which cannot buy medications for them, in his bill he suggested that the pensions of a Retiree should be fifty thousand naira and should be reviewed every two years or when minimum wage is being reviewed.
The Speaker Benue Hon. Aondona Dajoh ruled that the Bills will be read the second time in August 2025.
During plenary
The House also approved the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order Barr. Fidelis Mnyim the request to appear before it on Tuesday, August 5th, to provide updates on the bills assented to by the Executive.
The Commissioner who appeared before the house today, pleaded for more time to furnish the house with the status of Bills Passed by the legislature.
