FIC Report (Edo State) – In a significant recognition of his unwavering support for the Pharmacy Profession and his impactful Leadership in Nigeria’s Healthcare Sector, Professor D.E. Obaseki, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), was honored with the Prestigious “Friend of Pharmacy Award” by the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN).
The Award was conferred during the 26th Annual National Scientific Conference held at SIO Event Centre, Ikpokpan on August 5th, 2025, Benin City, .
The “Friend of Pharmacy Award” recognizes individuals whose Leadership and advocacy have significantly advanced the Pharmacy Profession in Nigeria. Pharmacist Babashehu Ahmed, FPSN, Registrar of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), lauded Prof. Obaseki’s outstanding contributions, describing him as “One of the most supportive and impactful figures in Nigeria’s Healthcare Landscape.”
In his Acceptance Speech, Prof. Obaseki expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of Pharmacists at UBTH in pioneering the groundbreaking 100% prescription fill policy—an initiative that marks a first in Nigeria’s Healthcare history. He commended the dedication of Pharmacy Staff and reiterated his commitment to fostering strong professional relationships across healthcare disciplines.
The Accolade recognizes to Prof. Obaseki’s legacy of exemplary Leadership, unwavering support and underscores his influence in shaping Nigeria’s Healthcare framework. Industry Stakeholders view the Award as a testament to his enduring commitment to enhancing Patient Care and Professional collaboration within the Health Sector.
The Event gathered high-profile dignitaries, including the Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, who represented the State Governor, His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo; the National President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Pharm.
