FIC Report (FCT) – The federal government has orders shutdown of illegal gold mining site in Gwagwalada area council of federal capital territory (FCT).

The federal government has ordered the mining marshals to seal off the illegal mining site in the area to avert potential environmental damage.

The directive issued by the minister of solid mineral Dr. Dele Alake on Wednesday followed a recent operation on August 16 2025 when marshals successfully shutdown another illegal site in Gwagwalada district 2 extension layout and arrested 16 suspects who would soon be prosecuted .

According to Dele Alake’s special assistance on media Segun Tomori, Preliminary findings indicated that artisanal miners besieged the area after gold was accidentally uncovered during the digging of a soak away pit near a residential building.

Tomori stated ,the most recent incident took place on a farm land located behind CKC in Gwagwalada.

According to his statement, mining officials led by the Director of mine inspectorate, (Represented by Deputy Director, Sunday Okhuaya) conducted an on site inspection and expressed satisfaction with the compliance so far.

While the investigation is ongoing,The Commander of the mining Marshals Assistance Commandant of Corps (ACC) John Attah Onojah confirmed that round the clock surveillance has been established at both locations while Federal Authorities continue their enquiry.
