FIC Report (Benin City, Edo State)Citizens in Edo have reacted positively to a recently concluded Sensitization Campaign Program organized to enlighten the public on Federal Government policies and developmental initiatives.

On August 18, 2025, Information Officers from the Federal Information Centre, Benin City, embarked on a public rally that began at the Federal Secretariat Complex and extended to the popular Aduwawa Market. The officers engaged residents directly, highlighting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s achievements at the two-year mark of his administration, with a particular focus on the South-South zone.

The campaign continued the following day, August 19, with a town hall sensitization program. Guest speaker, Dr. Kennedy Edegbe, provided clarifications on completed and ongoing Federal Government projects in the region. He cited notable developments such as the College of Education, Mosogar; College of Education (Technical), Asaba; Delta Polytechnic; and several road projects currently underway.

The program, which drew community leaders, youths, traders, and civil society representatives, was designed to promote awareness and encourage public participation in national development efforts.

Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that such campaigns help bridge the information gap between the government and the people. “This program has opened our eyes to what the government is doing and how we can be part of it,” said Mrs. Juliet Omoregie, a market leader at Aduwawa.

Also speaking at the event, the Zonal Director of Programs, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Benin, represented by Mrs. Francesca Nwaogbe, commended President Tinubu’s administration for its youth-friendly policies and achievements in the South-South. She encouraged citizens to visit the highlighted project sites for firsthand confirmation.

Similarly, Mr. Joseph Ajang, Deputy Director coordinating the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Benin City, emphasized the importance of sustaining such sensitization efforts to ensure citizens remain well-informed about government activities.

While applauding the initiative, some participants called for broader outreach to rural areas. “Many people in the villages also need this kind of awareness, not just those in town,” remarked youth activist Mr. Peter Obasuyi.

The sensitization campaign featured interactive sessions, distribution of information materials, and a question-and-answer segment where citizens raised issues concerning governance, infrastructure, and social welfare.

Observers noted that the mixed reactions underscored both the success of the program in generating public interest and the need for wider coverage to ensure inclusivity.
