FIC Report (Sokoto State) – The Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Ismail Gusau, has emphasised the importance of media engagement in the fight against insecurity, stating that the military is reaching out to media organisations across the region to foster stronger collaboration in sensitising the public on security issues.
The Director stated this, when he paid a courtesy call and an on- the- spot assessment visit to the Sokoto state Commissioner of Information and Orientation, in his office, on Friday, 26th September, 2025.
According to him, the visit was part of his familiarisation tour to States under operation Fansan Yamma, which covers the North- West geopolitical zone. “We are conducting these operations on behalf of Nigerians and we can not succeed without the support of the media. The partnership of media outlets in Sokoto state is crucial to ensure that accurate information reaches the public to counter misinformation”. He stated.
Responding, the Sokoto state Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Alh. Sambo Bello Danchadi, commended the military and other security agencies for their sacrifices and successes in the ongoing fight against banditry and other related crimes, noting that the visit reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing security co-operation with States and stakeholders.
The Commissioner stated that, the media has a vital role in promoting peace and stability. He explained that the Sokoto state Government remains committed to supporting all security agencies in their operations. The ministry will give maximum co-operation to achieve the shared goal of a safer and more secured Sokoto.
