Edo Gov, Deputy Lauded for Exemplary Leadership with University of Benin Awards

FIC Report (Edo State) – The Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, were recently honored with the University of Benin Distinguished Service and Leadership Awards, respectively, in recognition of their exemplary leadership styles since assuming office on November 12, 2024, a period marked by notable achievements.

The awards ceremony was part of the Faculty of Social Sciences’ Golden Jubilee celebration at the University of Benin, where Prof. Edoba Omoregie, the University’s Vice Chairman, presented the awards. Deputy Governor Idahosa expressed pride in being recognized by his alma mater, commending the faculty’s legacy of excellence and highlighting the administration’s commitment to revitalizing education in Edo State. He emphasized inclusivity and infrastructure development, stating, “The administration of Senator Monday Okpebholo is committed to strengthening the education sector… We are determined to guarantee access to quality education for all, including children with special needs.” Idahosa also appealed to students to shun vices, particularly cultism, stressing that the government would deal decisively with anyone found engaging in such acts.

In a keynote lecture, Prof. Brownwell Amadasun critiqued the ideological roots of the Nigerian state, citing ethnic and religious divisions as major obstacles to national growth. He called for a fundamental shift in leadership philosophy and collective mindset to foster unity and sustainable progress.

The Faculty’s 50th anniversary celebrations will continue throughout the week with lectures, exhibitions, and alumni engagements, celebrating five decades of scholarship, service, and alumni engagements, celebrating five decades of scholarship, service, and societal impact. The event highlights the University’s commitment to academic excellence and its role in shaping future leaders.
