FIC Report (Benue State) – The Benue State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, 7th October 2025, during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alfred Berger Emberga, debated the second reading of a bill seeking to establish the Benue State Education Quality Assurance and Examinations Board.

The bill, sponsored by the Majority Leader, Hon. Sir Thomas Dugeri, seeks to merge the Bureau of Education Quality Assurance with the Benue State Examinations Board to enhance standards and ensure quality in basic and post-basic education across the state.

According to the sponsor, the proposed law aims to create a strong institutional framework for effective supervision, monitoring, and enforcement of high standards in the education sector — a step expected to significantly improve the overall quality of learning in Benue State.

Seconding the motion, Rt. Hon. Abu Umoru emphasized that the bill would provide the necessary framework for maintaining excellence in education, noting that basic and post-basic levels form the foundation of the state’s educational system and must not be compromised.

After debate, the bill was committed to the House Committee on Rules and Business for further legislative action.

In the same sitting, the House screened and confirmed the nominees forwarded by the Executive Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for the constitution of the Benue State Pension Commission.

The confirmed nominees are:

  1. Mr. Mbadzwa Zungwem Nicholas – Chairman
