FIC Report (Edo State) – The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) successfully conducted its Annual Internship Placement Interview on Tuesday with oversight from prominent Federal Agencies to ensure transparency and fairness. Approximately 1,500 candidates from across Nigeria participated in the Computer-Based Testing (CBT) exercise held October 7th, 2025, at the UNIBEN CBT Centres.
The exercise was closely monitored by Officials from the Federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Character Commission (FCC), who praised UBTH for conducting a hitch-free and transparent process. Representatives from these agencies observed the proceedings to ensure adherence to national standards and the principles of meritocracy in the selection of interns.
Addressing the candidates, UBTH’s Chief Medical Director, Professor (Mrs.) Idia Ize-Iyamu, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to a fair and Merit-based process. She warned Candidates against any attempts at unethical practices, emphasizing that the selection would be based solely on performance during the interview.
“The Exercise has been conducted smoothly and in accordance with all guidelines,” Prof. Ize-Iyamu stated. “We have Observers from the Federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Character Commission present to monitor the process. Our focus is on fairness, transparency, and excellence.”
Representative Kayode Oke of the Federal Ministry of Health expressed his satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise. He commended UBTH for ensuring a hitch-free process and reiterated the ministry’s support for Merit-based selection.
Similarly, Barr. Simon Ehigie, the Edo State Director of the Federal Character Commission, noted that the exercise complies fully with Federal guidelines and the Federal Character Principle. He highlighted that candidates were drawn from all 36 States, and assured that merit remains the Primary criterion for selection.
Prof. Stanley Okugbo, Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at UBTH, emphasized the hospital’s dedication to fairness and meritocracy. He explained that the interview process is structured to provide an objective assessment of each Candidate’s capabilities.
Prior to the exercise, the University of Benin’s Director of ICT, Mr. Kehinde Samuel, confirmed that the University had prepared the necessary Infrastructure to facilitate a seamless and secure CBT process for all Applicants.
Participants expressed satisfaction with the transparent procedure, praising the hospital Management for upholding integrity in the internship selection process.
As UBTH continues to uphold its standards of excellence, the institution remains committed to conducting transparent and Merit-based Internship exercises, with oversight from relevant Federal Agencies to reinforce Public confidence in the process.
