The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal has reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment towards effective leadership to enhance cordial relationship between the management and union members in the Ministry.
Balarabe disclosed this recently in Abuja while receiving on official working visit a delegation from the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) FCT Council, an affiliate of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) led by its Vice Chairman, Comrade Hillary Okwor to the Minister and other top management staff for their excellence and leadership style towards all the Union members in the Ministry.
The Minister noted that the Union members remains a mirror for effective leadership in any organisation as they usually canvass for cordial relationship between the management and the staff.
He also believed that the Union should be a vanguard of various policies and programmes of the Ministry to ensure environmental sustainability, such as National Cooking Policy, Circular Economy, National Clear Air Programmes, ban on Single Plastic Usage and Climate Change adoption and mitigation among others.
The Minister assured the Union leaders that welfare of staff in the Ministry will be giving utmost priority despite the limited resources and asked for more collaborations to ensure peace and progress in the environmental sector.


Earlier in his remark, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mahmud Adam Kambari commended the Union executives in the Ministry for establishing and maintaining the existing cordial relationship with the management due to the excellence leadership style of the Minister of Environment.
Kambari also thanked the NCSU FCT Council for associating with the Ministry’s excellent leadership performance and the role of the Ministry Union in all the programmes such as the cash plan committee meeting for prompt payment of staff claims which are considered a top priority to enhance transparency and accountability.
In his opening remark, Comrade Hillary reiterated that their visit was a rear opportunities to the Ministry due to the exemplary leadership of the management team in providing conducive working environment for the staff to perform their duties, such as purchase of CNG staff buses, payment of allowances, training , burial expenses, 1st twenty eight days and host of others.



Comrade Hillary further revealed that the award of leadership excellence for the top Management staff was symbolic as well as to honor for the unhindered access given to the union members unlike some other MDAs that the Union lack access to the management.
The Comrade urged the Minister to encourage other Ministers to emulate his leadership style.
The Minister, Permanent Secretary and all the Directors in the Ministry of Environment was giving excellence leadership award for their quality leadership and effective management of the affairs of the Ministry among which is the Director of Press and Public Relations, Ibrahim Haruna.
