FIC Report (Sokoto State) – The Sokoto state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has commended the Minister of state for works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, for his outstanding support towards the development of journalism and promotion of transparency in governance.
The commendation was made by the state chairman of the council, Comrade Usman Muhammadu Binji, during a one-day capacity-building workshop for journalists held in Sokoto, on Thursday, 9th October, 2025.
Binji, applauded the Minister for sponsoring the training of 20 working journalists in the state, this was aimed at enhancing their professional skills. The training focused on equipping journalists with modern skills to tackle challenges in the digital era.
The theme of the training was “investigative journalism in the Digital Era” which is to strengthen the role of the press as partner in promoting accountability, transparency and National development.
Also speaking, the chairman of the workshop, an Associate Professor with the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, Professor Muhammad Sajo Sanyinna, lauded the NUJ for its continued effort to enhance professionalism and capacity building within the media industry.
Sanyinna described the initiative as a vital step in ensuring that journalists in Sokoto state remain equipped with the tools and integrity needed to perform their duties effectively in the digital era.
