In an effort to boost the productivity of the Ministry of Regional Development’s staff, the ministry organised a two-day training programme for the directorate cadre on the fundamentals of productivity at the weekend. The training was facilitated by the Home of Noir, a management consulting firm, and held at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria, Abuja.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Mary Ogbe, while addressing the participants, appealed for the practical application of the lessons learnt. She said, “As we go back to the ministry, I want us to begin to implement what we have all learnt and see how we can better the ministry as a service to our fatherland.”
Dr Ogbe equally tasked the participants to improve service delivery to the people and change the narrative of how things are perceived in the civil service by adopting a service-oriented mindset in the ministry.
The training covered several key areas, including an overview of productivity—concept and application; productivity in the workplace; change in mindset as the key to improved productivity; management of learning; improving productivity through work ethics; use of 5S/good housekeeping as a tool for continuous improvement, and the importance of teamwork and synergy in achieving organisational goals.
The two-day programme concluded with the presentation of certificates of participation to all the attendees.
