………..Urges the Nation’s Academics to Consider the Much Government is Doing in all Sectors and Shun Industrial Action.
The Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has charged 12 newly- selected Volunteers to uphold excellence, patriotism and service as they embark on the 24-month service to Uganda and Sierra Leone under the Technical Aid Corps scheme.
The Volunteers were given the charge during their official orientation exercise at the NTAC Complex in Abuja on Tuesday. While re-iterating his gratitude to President Tinubu for his continuous support to the Agency, Buba noted that since assumption of office Mr. President immediately commenced the revival and prioritizing of Nigeria’s soft power diplomacy through the Technical Aid Corps scheme and has sustained the new tempo since then.
The DG assured the Volunteers that their welfare remains a top priority for both NTAC and the Federal Government, stressing that they should on account of that always appreciate the much that Government does to make the country relevant across the globe.
“The Federal Government takes care of all you need in this Scheme, while your host country will undertake transportation, accommodations and utility bills. You can now appreciate the much that Government does and be very good Ambassadors of the country.
“As lecturers, it is also important that you have this understanding of the enormous responsibilities of the Federal Government and impress upon your colleagues the need to always shun industrial action in favour of dialogue,” Buba emphasized.
The Volunteers, drawn from diverse fields, including Medicine, Law, Education, Public Health, and ICT, will serve for a two-year period under bilateral agreements designed to promote shared growth and development.
They were advised to maintain close contact with the Nigerian Missions in their host countries and to uphold the nation’s image and values in foreign jurisdictions.
Each of the Team Leads of the two groups of Volunteers to both Uganda and Sierra Leone, Prof. Haruna Ayuba of the Department of International Relations, University of Maiduguri and Prof. Ngozi Azubuike Alili, a Head of Department of Private and Property Law of the Kogi State University, Ayingba; as well as Dr. Goodness Enegbogheli, a Public Health practitioner and lecturer at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rivers State, praised the commitment of the Federal Government to the TAC Scheme and pledged to do the nation proud through their participation.
The event concluded with group photographs of the DG, Senior Management Staff, and the departing Volunteers.
