FIC Report (Sokoto State) – The Sokoto state Governor, Ahamed Aliyu, has officially opened the North-West University Teaching Hospital, founded by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wammako, during his tenure as the Governor of Sokoto state. Aliyu described it as “a golden legacy” that will be remembered forever by the people of the state. The hospital is the first of its kind in the North-West geopolitical zone.
During the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, 21st October, 2025, the Governor said that the development is set to transform the state into a national hub for quality health care services, nothing that its establishment followed the Federal Executive Council’s approval granted in May, 2025.He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with the North-West University to enhance health care delivery in Sokoto state.
Governor Aliyu further commended the Senator for his monumental contributions to the development of health care services in the state.He urged the hospital’s management and staff to maintain high standard of professionalism and ensure efficient use of the state-of-art equipment.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the North-West University, Professor Muktar Umar Bunza, expressed gratitude to the president, Bola Ahamed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council for granting a full scale operational licence to the institution. He applauded Senator Wammako for his unwavering dedication to the project and revealed plans to establish collaboration with local and international universities. He stated that the commissioning of the Teaching Hospital marks a pivotal moment in the institution’s history and a major leap for the health care landscape of the Sokoto state and the North-West region.
Professor Umar, explained that the hospital will deliver specialised patient-centred services and bring world class diagnostics, surgical suites and ICU capacity, reducing the need for patients to travel far for complex health care.
The ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wammako, the state’s Deputy Governor, Idris Muhammed Gobir etc.
