FMIST Prioritizes Gender Equity As A Core Pillar Of Its Innovation Agenda

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Mrs. Esuabana Nko Asanye has said that the Ministry is working tirelessly in making sure that gender equality becomes an integral part of innovation agenda across its existing projects and programs.

The Permanent Secretary, who was represented by the Gender Head of the Ministry, Mrs. Dola Ronnel Gambo said this at a One Day Workshop on Advancing Gender Mainstreaming in Science, Technology and Innovation, today, in Abuja.

According to Esuabana, gender mainstreaming is not an afterthought, but a deliberate and systematic approach to integrating Gender perspectives into every stage of the ministry’s mandates and visions.

She pointed out that Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) being the bedrock of national development has the potential to transform all sectors of the economy, yet gender disparities persist within the landscape as we continue to face barriers in access to funding, mentorship and technology infrastructure.

The Permanent Secretary emphasize that the workshop offers an invaluable opportunity to reflect, share experiences, and chart practical parthway for implementing gender mainstreaming across the STI sector, adding that the knowledge and recommendation that will emerge from the deliberation will serve as a guide for institutional strengthening within the Ministry and beyond.

She then encourages the participants to engage actively and exchange ideas that can build a future where innovation serves everyone.

Earlier, the Gender Desk Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Eneh Fisayo Omawumi said that the Workshop is timely and essential as gender mainstreaming in Science and Technology is not only about fairness but efficiency, innovation and sustainability for societal development.
