NUJ Benue Chairman Describes 2025 Press Week as Successful, Calls for Stronger Professional Commitment

FIC Report (Benue State) – Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council, Comrade Bemdoo Ugber, has described the 2025 Press Week as successful and impactful, urging journalists to build on the gains recorded during the weeklong activities.

Speaking at the Thanksgiving Mass held on Sunday, 30th November 2025, at Saint Paulinus Catholic Chaplaincy, Lower Benue, Makurdi, Comrade Ugber said the service was organized to appreciate God for guiding the Union through a fruitful Press Week. He noted that the Thanksgiving marked the official conclusion of the 2025 Press Week and provided an opportunity for members to reflect, evaluate their roles, and realign for greater effectiveness.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Frederick Usman called on Christians to deepen their spiritual preparation as the world anticipates the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Preaching on the theme “Am I Ready for the Coming of the Son of Man?”, he emphasized that the Advent Season is a moment of hope, renewal, and repentance. He urged believers to engage in self-examination and to live in readiness for Christ’s return, which he described as a source of liberation from darkness.

The priest also charged journalists to uphold truth, fairness, and responsibility in their reportage, stressing that ethical practice is not only a professional requirement but also a reflection of spiritual integrity.

The Thanksgiving Mass was attended by the Director, News and Current Affairs, Mr. David Vihi; heads of media organizations; members of various chapels; and friends of the Union.
