The Executive Director of NIWRMC, Dr. Abdulmumini Aminu-Zaria said Federal and State Governments working together will “ensure that water abstraction, ground water development, pollution control and service delivery are managed in a coordinated and sustainable manner which supports the national drive towards Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM)”.
Speaking during the occasion, Dr. Aminu-Zaria said “our collaboration will also help develop a reliable reporting system, and support the development of strategies that protect both water quantity and quality for present and future generations”.
He stated that “the NIWRMC under my leadership has embarked on institutional reset and reform calibrated to entrenching good corporate governance and stakeholders’ engagement in the water sector”.
“It is in furtherance of this commitment that the NIWRMC seeks this valuable collaboration with the Kano State Water Board which reflects a shared commitment to improving water allocation efficiency, enhancing compliance with national water regulations and promoting transparency in Water-Use Licencing.
This MoU allows us to harmonize our regulatory mandate, streamline data exchange and jointly strengthen monitoring and enforcement mechanism across Kano State water sector,” he said.
The Executive Director commended “the leadership of the Kano State Water Board for their vision and readiness to embrace regulatory reforms and cooperation. I am confident that the implementation of this MoU will set a new benchmark for other states and further reinstate national effort towards sustainable water resources management”.
In his response, the Honourable Commissioner of Water Resources, Kano State, Haruna Umar Doguwa said the Kano State government wants to continue to provide potable water to the people of Kano, as such, there is need to collaborate and cooperate with NIWRMC to regulate water sources in Kano State and to sign MoU to serve as a guiding tool which will be a significant advantage to the State.
