FIC Report (Benue State) – The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management/Benue State Emergency Management Agency (Benue SEMA), Sir James Aondoakaa Iorpuu, PhD, was on Thursday, December 11, 2025, honoured by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the Mega Camp, Mbayongo in Makurdi.
In his remarks, the SEMA Boss expressed profound appreciation for the recognition, noting that the honour would further boost his confidence and inspire him to continue delivering dedicated service in the best interest of the IDPs and the state.
Sir James reaffirmed the commitment of the Alia administration to ensuring the safe return of IDPs to their ancestral communities, stressing that the goal is not to sustain people in camps but to restore their dignity and rebuild their lives. He urged the IDPs to continue supporting the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, whose leadership, he said, is focused on restoring the state’s lost glory and providing lasting solutions to displacement challenges.
Speaking on behalf of the IDPs, Mr. Augustine Aboor commended Sir James Iorpuu for his transformational impact on the humanitarian response in Benue State. He praised the Permanent Secretary’s transparency, accountability, and humane approach to addressing the needs of displaced persons.
Aboor highlighted the previously dire conditions in camps such as Ichwa, NEPA Quarters, and Baka, expressing gratitude to Governor Alia for the improved shelters, adequate food supply, and better healthcare services that have significantly alleviated their suffering.
The IDPs also reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Alia administration and appealed to Sir James Iorpuu to facilitate INEC voter registration at the Mbayongo Mega Camp to enable them to exercise their franchise in the 2027 general elections.
