FIC Report (Benue State) – The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on 13th December 2025, lauded the Tiv Nation for its rich cultural heritage, resilience, and outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s unity and national development at the 2025 Tiv Cultural Day Celebration held in Gboko, Benue State.
Speaking at the event in Gboko, President Tinubu described the Tiv people as a model of cultural pride, communal harmony, and patriotism, noting that their traditions, values, and communal spirit continue to strengthen Nigeria’s cultural diversity and promote peaceful coexistence across the country.
The President, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to good governance and national transformation under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He said the administration remains focused on economic revitalisation, massive infrastructural development, food security, poverty reduction, job creation, and the fight against insecurity.
President Tinubu recalled that the Tiv Cultural Day, established in 1977, has remained a strong platform for promoting unity and preserving the cultural identity of the Tiv people. He described the annual celebration as a worthy example for other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria in sustaining their heritage while strengthening national cohesion.
He further acknowledged the historical sacrifices and enduring commitment of the Tiv people to the unity and territorial integrity of Nigeria, particularly during the Nigerian Civil War, adding that the Tiv Nation continues to produce men and women of quality serving meritoriously in key positions within his administration.
Highlighting key achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda, the President reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening fundamental freedoms, civil liberties, and good governance. He cited improvements in education, digitalisation of the economy, public service welfare, and the Ease of Doing Business, which has continued to attract increased foreign direct investment.



President Tinubu also referenced major infrastructural projects across the country, including the construction of new dams and strategic bridges such as the River Buruku Bridge, intensified security operations to restore peace nationwide, and the establishment of the North Central Development Commission to fast-track development across the region.
In his goodwill message, the President extended prayers for long life and prosperity to His Royal Majesty, the Tor Tiv, the Tiv Area Traditional Council, and the entire Tiv Nation.
The celebration featured the conferment of honorary traditional titles, with the Tiv Area Traditional Council approving 26 individuals. Eighteen were honoured during the ceremony in Gboko, while the remaining eight are scheduled for conferment at a later date. The event was marked by colourful cultural displays and renewed communal solidarity.
