Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim has approved resuscitation of the Ministry’s Creche, prompting the setting up of high power Committee to actualize the project.
Inaugurating the Committee charged with working out modalities for the effective take-off of the Dr. Victoria Gowon National Work Place Nursery (Creche) located at Asokoro, near the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters.
the Permanent Secretary. Mrs. Nko Asanye Esuabana, represented by the Director of Legal Services, Mrs. Sweet Ogundaye said that establishment of this Workplace nursery is in line with the Mandate of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to promote early childhood care and development, support working parents, and advance family- friendly policies within the public service.
Speaking further, She stressed that. It is also intended to serve as a modern national workplace Creche, combining quality childcare with operational efficiency.
The Permanent Secretary described the Committee as critical to the success and sustainability of this initiative, noting that the Committee Members are charged with the following terms of reference:
i. Conduct a needs assessment of staff with children between the age 0 and 3 years.
ii. Work out modalities on the best ways to run the workplace nursery efficiently and effectively.
iii. Determine and identify the Members of staff to be deployed to the workplace nursery.
iv. Work on the development of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the smooth running of the workplace nursery in line with security, health , safety, admission and emergency Protocols;
v. Propose an enterprise driven and sustainable management model that ensures efficiency, affordability and quality service delivery;
vi. Identify partnership opportunities with relevant Stakeholders; and
vii. Determine the number of children to be admitted at every session.
The Permanent Secretary directed the Committee to complete its work and submit a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations to her office within four weeks.
Earlier, in his welcome remarks the Director, Child Development Department and Chairman’ of the Committee, Mr. Ali Andrew Madugu commended the Minister and the Permanent Secretary
for their wisdom, saying that the initiative reflects the Ministry’s continued commitment to the welfare, care, and holistic development of young children, as well as support for working parents within the Ministry.
According to him, approving the reactivation of the crèche, will no doubt provide a safe, nurturing, and child-friendly environment that aligns with best practices in Early Childhood Care and Development.
The Director congratulated members of the Committee for their well-deserved appointment and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, professionalism, and a strong sense of purpose.
Members of the Committee were drawn from various Departments and Units within the Ministry, with Deputy Director Child Development Department, Mrs. Mariam Shaibu Fitumi Deputy Director Child Development as Secretary.
