FIC Report (Edo State) – The Edo State Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited have reaffirmed their commitment to jointly develop a 10,000 barrels-per-day condensate refinery in Edo State, a move expected to boost industrial growth, create jobs, and strengthen energy supply in the region.
The proposed refinery, scheduled for completion within 24 to 36 months, will be sited across Oredo and Orhionmwon Local Government Areas. When operational, the facility is projected to deliver about 20 truckloads of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 10 truckloads of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) daily, meeting fuel demands in Edo State and surrounding areas.
Governor Monday Okpebholo made this known while receiving the Executive Vice President, Downstream, NNPC Limited, Alhaji Mumuni Dagazia, alongside members of his management team during a Courtesy visit to the Government House in Benin City. The Governor described the investment as a practical demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in driving economic diversification and industrial development.
According to Governor Okpebholo, the refinery project will have far-reaching Socio-Economic benefits, including employment generation, poverty reduction, and the expansion of Edo State’s industrial base. He assured NNPC of the state government’s unwavering support to ensure the smooth implementation and success of the project.
“We are delighted to welcome this major investment to Edo State. My Administration is committed to creating jobs and reducing poverty, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This is a huge step for Edo, and we are proud to be part of it,” the Governor stated.
He further pledged that the Edo State Government would provide all required support, including land acquisition, issuance of Certificates of Occupancy, adequate security, and other enabling logistics. Governor Okpebholo stressed that security would be guaranteed, adding that his administration remains determined to protect investments and sustain Edo State as a safe and attractive destination for business.
Earlier, Alhaji Mumuni Dagazia described the condensate refinery as a sustainable and strategic investment designed to go beyond revenue generation to drive job creation, industrial expansion, and overall socio-economic development in Edo State.
Also speaking, the Chief Downstream Investment Officer at NNPC Limited, Mr. Ikedichi Dick-Nwoke, noted that the project would reposition Edo State as a key energy and industrial hub in the South-South region. He added that the refinery would enhance investor confidence, support Governor Okpebholo’s industrialization drive, and significantly increase employment opportunities for residents of the state.
