FIC Report (Abia State) – The Federal Government has reaffirmed its dedicated commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture through strategic collaboration with states, as it convened a two-day Federal and States Security Administrators (FASA) Meeting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

The high-level security summit, organised by the Federal Government in collaboration with the Abia State Government, brought together top security administrators, policymakers and stakeholders from across the country to critically examine emerging security challenges and chart a coordinated path forward, particularly as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Declaring the meeting open at the International Conference Centre, Ogurube Layout, Umuahia, Alex Otti emphasized that security remains the bedrock of national and sub-national development.
“No nation or state can achieve meaningful development without adequate security in place,” .

Governor Otti stated that security is not merely an isolated function of force but “an enabling environment for prosperity.”
He stressed that infrastructure development, industrial growth, investment attraction and job creation can only thrive in a secure and predictable environment.

According to him, credible elections are equally fundamental to progress, calling for strong synergy among security agencies, INEC, political actors and other relevant institutions to curb the activities of hoodlums and political thugs who seek to undermine democratic processes.

The Governor assured participants that his administration would continue to partner with security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property, adding that Abia’s reform agenda focused on rebuilding public confidence, revitalising infrastructure and strengthening institutions rests firmly on a stable security framework.

Speaking on behalf of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, his Special Adviser on Governance and Sub-national Matters, Mr. A.B. Okuro, underscored the Federal Government’s firm resolve to work collaboratively with state governments and relevant institutions to fortify the nation’s collective security architecture.

He noted that modern security management demands coordination, trust and structured engagement across all levels of government.
“Nigeria’s security is a shared responsibility. With sustained collaboration, we will continue to make measurable progress,” he said.

Also delivering remarks, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, represented by the Chairman of FASA and Permanent Secretary, Special Services Office of the Presidency, Muhammad Sanusi Danjuma, explained that the summit places special focus on preparations for the 2027 general elections.

He highlighted emerging threats such as misinformation and its negative impact on national security, stressing the need for intensified collaboration to combat terrorism, banditry and other destabilising activities ahead of the polls.
He commended Governor Otti for hosting the meeting and acknowledged the developmental strides recorded in Abia State.

In goodwill messages, participants including Usman Tar, Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Borno State; Ms. Elsie Peters, Head of Service, Akwa Ibom State; and Muhammad Iyasu Idde, Permanent Secretary, Special Services Office, Nasarawa State, described the periodic FASA meetings as invaluable platforms for reviewing security situations and generating actionable recommendations to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

They noted that bringing together federal and state actors foster deeper understanding, experience-sharing and unified responses to complex security challenges.

The meeting attracted top security personnel, senior government officials and stakeholders in the security industry, reinforcing the Federal Government’s leadership role in driving coordinated national security efforts.
As deliberations continue, the Umuahia summit stands as a strong signal that the Federal Government, working closely with the states, is determined to ensure that safety, stability and credible democratic processes remain central to Nigeria’s progress and prosperity.
