Governor Okpebholo Pays Medical Bills for Ekpoma Fire Victim and Others at Irrua Specialist Hospital

FIC Report (Edo State) – Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has stepped in to cover the Medical expenses of a Pregnant Woman and her husband who were severely burned in a recent fire incident in Ekpoma. The Governor ’s Intervention came during a visit to the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, where he also settled bills for several other Patients currently receiving treatment across various Wards.

During his visit, Governor Okpebholo explained that the woman initially approached hospital Authorities seeking Financial Assistance for her husband’s treatment. However, the situation escalated when medical personnel discovered that the pregnant woman was due to deliver. Acting swiftly, the Medical Team arranged for her to be admitted to the hospital, where she later underwent a successful cesarean section, resulting in the safe delivery of a baby.

“The woman came to seek help for her husband, who was badly burned and needed financial support for his treatment. When the doctors saw her and realized she was close to delivery, they immediately took her into care. She subsequently delivered a healthy baby through Cesarean Section,” the Governor stated.

Governor Okpebholo further disclosed that he had directed the hospital management to settle the medical bills of the woman, her husband, and other patients in the hospital’s wards. “We have agreed to pay their bills so they can continue their treatment without the burden of outstanding payments. We are hopeful that the man and others in critical condition will recover swiftly,” he added.

The Governor emphasized that this Act of Compassion is part of his Administration’s broader effort to support Edo residents facing Medical Emergencies and Financial hardships. He assured that the government remains committed to ensuring access to healthcare and alleviating the financial strain on families during critical times.

Patients and relatives who benefited from the governor’s kind gesture expressed heartfelt appreciation, describing the intervention as timely and relieving, especially given the rising costs of healthcare. They lauded Governor Okpebholo for his compassionate leadership and commitment to the wellbeing of the people of Edo State.
